There is a lot of music to be found in Maldives . Many popular western forms of music are also appreciated in the Maldives Islands , as well as traditional music passed down by Maldivian people. Bodu Beru, for example, is an extremely popular music and dance form that is enjoyed by all kinds of Maldivians. The percussion based music is complemented by the chanting of a lead singer and a chorus that helps to clap to the beat.
There is pure, unbridled joy to be had watching the native Maldivians join in with the signing and dancing in their own distinctive ways as the music builds up. Other types of percussive music and dance, such as Thaara and Dhandijehun, are mostly seen only at national events and occasions. The movements and passionate rhythms of Maldivian dance and music is an appropriate symbol indeed for the independent and proud country itself.
National celebrations and holidays in Maldives include Republic Day, which features parades and marches, National Day, which celebrates a victory over the Portuguese in the 16 th century, and Independence Day, which is celebrated in July and features many traditional dances and parades.
